Spring has finally arrived and with Spring unfortunately comes thunderstorms.
As many of you know, computers, modems and thunderstorms, especially when heavy lighting is involved, don’t mix well. At Butler-Bremer we strongly recommend that during storms you not only power down your computer and modem, but also disconnect the phone or CATV line feeding your modem.
Modems are very sensitive to the power surges that can occur during these storms. While a surge protector can provide some additional security, the surest way to protect your investment is to simply disconnect the equipment. If storms are possible, power down and disconnect your equipment before you retire for the night. Planning on leaving home for an extended period of time? Again make sure you power down your electronics and disconnect the modem before you leave the house.
These simple steps can save you not only money, but the time and aggravation of having to replace important equipment.
