Residential telephone subscribers have the right, under federal law, to avoid unwanted telephone solicitations from telemarketers. In implementing the law, the federal government in concert with state governments, has established a national Do-Not-Call Database that telemarketers are obligated to honor.
If you wish to register your telephone number (wireline or wireless) in the Do-Not-Call Database, you may do so by phone (you must call from the phone whose number you wish to register) by calling 1-888-382-1222 (TTY 1-866-290-4236) or over the Internet at www.donotcall.gov.
There is no charge for registering your phone number and the registration is good for five years, after which the registration may be renewed. Once your number is registered, telemarketers have up to 31 days before they stop calling you.
Registration may not eliminate all unwanted calls since political organizations, charities and organizations conducting bona fide telephone surveys are exempt from the law. If at any time, you wish to revoke your registration, you will need to call the number above from the phone whose number you wish to remove from the database.
